peacemakers and emotionals

having a group of kids over for a playdate is not for the weak of heart. seriously. but it does make for an interesting study in psychology that can be applied to most situations involving humans.

case in point from a recent playdate ~ peacemakers and emotionals. 99% fit in one of the two categories at any given time. {the other 1% are sociopaths.}

the next time you are in a meeting, a classroom, or at a birthday party, just watch the crowd. you'll quickly pick out the peacemakers ~ ones who want to include everyone, who want to soothe hurt feelings and who give the last bag of cheetos {that they REALLY wanted} to a friend. you'll also see the emotionals ~ the ones who MUST play with a certain friend, who cry when they don't get the frosted roses and who pout when asked to share the cheetos. having watched this play out for a while, i notice all children exhibit both characteristics depending on the circumstance but seem to lean toward one or another.

i believe we need both peacemakers and emotionals to advance society. in moderation. the sociopaths keep things interesting.

FWIW: my heart is best served with one on one playdates.
