is this the end of the innocence?

So this week, the questions came out of nowhere {except that subject of dishonesty was at the house last week after a displacement of a hard, calcified structure often found in one's mouth or under a child's pillow, let's say}. With a knowing stare that only someone who has been lied to can have. There was nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. No one to rescue us. And it reminded me of a favorite song by Don Henley. It goes a little like this ....

Remember when the days were long

And rolled beneath a deep blue sky

Didn't have a care in the world With mommy and daddy standing by

When "happily ever after" fails And I've been poisoned by these fairy tales My parents left out small details Like the Tooth Fairy isn't real.

Offer up your best defense. But this is the end This is the end of the innocence.

What in the fresh hell is next? Questions about SANTA? the EASTER BUNNY? HOW BABIES ARE MADE? LHM. I'm longing for the days when She thought fried fish was "Chicken Fish" and didn't question it. Or when we told Her that She couldn't have a gerbil in the house, but that the "gerbils" in the garage wanted cool names {I know what you are thinking, but they are NOT city rats. They are garage gerbils.} Or the best one ~ Dad put a special chemical in the pool that will turn the water right around you purple if you pee.

I'm simply NOT READY for this. Girl drama? Yes. Puberty? Kind of. Coming clean or owning my part in the little white lies? No. Therefore, I shall practice my "Oh hon, would I lie to you?" face {as much as I can after Botox). And continue to make magic happen for Her.
